Catja Pafort - Services Offered
Everything on this page has grown either out of keen interests or out of previous employment. Some, like Filemaker development, go back a long way, others - like copy editing - have been developed in the last four or five years. A number of skills - I'm a geek and always keen on learning new software, from 3D to inDesign, from MS Office to Photoshop - haven't made it into the list below.
Copy Editing/Editing
Historian, geographer, fiction writer.
I have an M.A. in history and geography and a keen academic interest in archaeology, so any manuscript dealing with these subjects is going to be of specific interest to me. I am bilingual in English and German, a keen traveller, and interested in just about anything: I like to learn, to research new subjects, and to broaden my horizon. I prefer to stay away from law, business studies and economics, but science, art, hobbies, computing, sports - chances are I'm already at least somewhat familiar with the topic, and by the time I receive a manuscript, I will know more.
I am also a fiction writer and editor who understands how to make a good story stronger, and the importance of preserving an author's style while making the text more accessible to readers.

Filemaker Development
Versatile standalone applications on Mac/Windows; twenty years experience.
I started developing Filemaker databases in Filemaker II in 1990. Filemaker is an easy-to-use, powerful relational database that won't cook you breakfast but that will attempt just about anything else. I use Filemaker to manage images, library records, ideas, fonts, submissions and as a workflow management tool. With the help of Filemaker I've reduced >1200 digital models to one or two search steps, and my font database helps me to find a font for all occasions.
If you have information in need of organisation, whatever it is, contact me.

Website Consultation
Helping you to develop the website that's right for you.
There are several ways to a website: you can learn all the necessary skills, you can use a template solution, you can pay someone else, or you can find someone to guide you through the design process. I will help you to find the solution that suits your needs and your budget
As this is a fairly intensive process, I am not offering this to more than one client at a time.
I use mainly HTML/CSS/PHP to design sites, but more importantly, I have a background in multimedia and exhibition design. The appearance of a website is an element that should not be underestimated - pages in plain text are not the easiest to read - but much of the structure of a site depends on the information you want to present and the messages you want your visitors to take away.
Thankfully CSS makes it easy to change the appearance of a website. Like just about every webdesigner under the sun, I was inspired by
http://www.csszengarden.com to delve into CSS and thus present
